The more Resistance the better when it comes to deciding to study the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

We all know people who seem to have a brilliant life – they seem to have things where they want them to be. While we might envy them, there is something that those people do that we can do too. They Resist Resistance. Steven Pressfield is a man who seems to know lots of stuff. One thing he seems to know lots about is people, and what makes them tick. I was reading some of his stuff recently, and came across this line: “the more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it”. People with brilliant lives are those who turn up every day, no matter what. They do the work, relentlessly, knowing that each day is a battle against the Resistance that tries to get you to procrastinate, avoid the hard work, and settle for less than you … Read More..

TAE Cert IV – Face to face, or online, or distance?

When it comes to choosing how you will do your own TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, the answer can get a bit complex, but it really just comes down to one thing. Because of this, some people actually prefer the face to face option. It forces a … Read More..

Treading the TAE40110 Path Is a Marathon Effort

Just like the Cert IV TAE can, my first marathon – the New York Marathon – took about a year from start to finish. In the end, I think I clocked up about 800km of training kilometres, busted my knee, broke a toe, had lots of ups and downs, but in the end I still finished. Some people ask how long it took me. The answer is 4 hours, 48 minutes and 17 seconds. But really it took a year. Some people ask what place I came in. The answer is I was number 32 241 across the finish line. But really it was just me. I didn’t realise when I started a year ago just how many parallels there were between running my first marathon and studying something like the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. The day I crossed the line in New York’s Central Park, back … Read More..

The Evolution of Individual Ethics into Group Ethics

One of the quickest ways to turn lecture-laden courses into active learning environments is through group discussion. Instructors diligently break up content where they can and turn appropriate portions into group discussions and group project assignments. Then some teachers take advantage of the time the students are occupied in their group work to grade papers or surf the Internet. Other teachers turn groups loose on out of class projects with the wave of a magic wand and expect great things to happen. As some of you may already know, it doesn’t always work out quite the way you envisioned during your planning. A newly formed group of 5 is not yet a group with a sense of teamwork. Rather it is a collection of 5 individuals, each with their own ethical principles regarding what is appropriate and what is inappropriate. A set of ethical principles within a group and specific … Read More..
