Why Upgrade?

Because things change over time, it is important that Training Packages are reviewed to make sure that they will not just equip people to do what was needed yesterday, but also equip them to do what will be needed tomorrow.

That is why the BSZ98 Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment was reviewed in 2003 to become the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment in 2004, and why that was then reviewed last year to become the current course, the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

What were the changes?

The step from the BSZ to the TAA was a significant one, with substantial additions made to equip people with the knowledge and skills to support the quality and national consistency required by the Australian Quality Training Framework.

The most recent change, by comparison, involved fewer changes. The main difference is that the TAE reorganised the Units of Competency so that they better reflected the actual requirements of trainers and assessors and made sure that the standards were in line with a Certificate IV level qualification.

How to Upgrade?

An upgrade is just like any other form of assessment. The onus is on us to confirm that you meet the requirements of the current qualification and can demonstrate that you are currently competent. To do that we look not just at when you may have completed your previous qualification, but what you have been doing since then.

The following decision-making tree provides a guide to determine if you are likely to be eligible for an upgrade, and what might be involved in making it happen.
